Barbara:
Back Home to Family
Barbara, 75, was admitted to
a short-term acute care hospital for a dislodged pigtail catheter in the
pancreatic cavity consistent with pancreatitis. Her course of treatment at the
traditional hospital was complicated by prerenal azotemia, left pleural
effusion and gallbladder ulceration.
Though Barbara’s condition
stabilized at the traditional hospital, at the end of her stay she required
extended recovery time.
Barbara transferred to
Kindred Hospital Northeast – Stoughton
for continued care on September 8.
Upon admission to Kindred Hospital, Barbara was dependent for all
self-care and was non-ambulatory. Kindred’s interdisciplinary team of physicians,
nurses, therapists and specialists evaluated Barbara and began an intensive
treatment plan tailored to her medical needs.
With intense physical and
occupational therapy Barbara made remarkable progress. By her discharge October
4 she was ambulating more than 150 feet and required only intermittent
assistance with her self-care routine. Having achieved all her therapy goals,
Barbara discharged home with family assistance as needed.
